When an employee leaves or a new person takes over an extension, you may need to update the name displayed on the phone system. This article explains how to request a name change for an extension.
What Gets Updated
When we change a name on an extension, the following are typically updated:
- Caller ID name (what appears when calling out)
- Directory listing
- Phone display name
- Voicemail box name
How to Request a Change
To request a name change on an extension, please email support@hopdial.com with the following information:
- Extension Number: The extension that needs to be updated
- Current Name: The name currently on the extension
- New Name: The new name to display
- Company Name: Your organization's name
Example Request
"Please change extension 105 from 'John Smith' to 'Jane Doe' for ABC Company."
Processing Time
Name change requests are typically processed within 1 business day. You'll receive a confirmation email once the change is complete.
Additional Changes
If the new user also needs:
- A new voicemail password reset (default: 2345)
- Email-to-voicemail forwarding updated
- Call forwarding changes
