Overview

When an employee leaves or a new person takes over an extension, you may need to update the name displayed on the phone system. This article explains how to request a name change for an extension.

What Gets Updated

When we change a name on an extension, the following are typically updated:

  • Caller ID name (what appears when calling out)
  • Directory listing
  • Phone display name
  • Voicemail box name

How to Request a Change

To request a name change on an extension, please email support@hopdial.com with the following information:

  1. Extension Number: The extension that needs to be updated
  2. Current Name: The name currently on the extension
  3. New Name: The new name to display
  4. Company Name: Your organization's name

Example Request

"Please change extension 105 from 'John Smith' to 'Jane Doe' for ABC Company."

Processing Time

Name change requests are typically processed within 1 business day. You'll receive a confirmation email once the change is complete.

Additional Changes

If the new user also needs:

  • A new voicemail password reset (default: 2345)
  • Email-to-voicemail forwarding updated
  • Call forwarding changes

Please include those requests in your email and we'll take care of everything together.
